There was a Dark and Awful Wood Empty There was a Dark and Awful Wood

Simply standing by the edge of a wood
Could entrance be a choice of the wise?
But, perhaps I lack the wisdom I should
For I ventured on, trees swallowing skies.

The earth beneath my footsteps grew denser
As I moved along the overgrown trail
While walking I noticed I do prefer
The perks of solitude, the woods a veil

The path I walked became ever more thick
Were the trees not farther apart before?
The little light from the sun vanished quick
Spurring a chill that seeped into my core.

I stood at the center of a wood, lost
I won my solitude, but at what cost?

I think this is the first happy poem from you I have read thus far. My interpretation of this one is one I can relate to since I love venturing into unknown woods. The phrase you use in the 8th line "The woods a veil" was interesting and I liked it. Showing that when you are caught up in a new experience it is hard to see what is in store for you in the future. I also enjoyed how, at the end, she doubts whether adventuring into unknown territory was worth the chance of getting lost and ultimately not attaining your goal which in this case seemed to be escapism. I wonder about things like this quite often. I dont question whether the choices i made to get to where i am were right. I question whether where I am is really where I want to be and I think that is what is happening in this poem.
