Forest of Gold

As we walk through the forest the leaves all glide around us

Moving in a line, straight forward the trees seem to bound us

Although this is the freest I have ever been in life

So serene, so quiet, so peaceful, so completely void of strife

My beliefs seem to fade as I realize their insignificance

On the day that I walk through the forest in solemn benevolence

One day I may return to this spot where I have discovered

The inner workings of my soul and of yours and of others

But the time always comes when reality will take the victory

As bulldozers come to destroy the pine and hickory

While the world tears down my last place of rest

I try to remain one as the world gives me a test

We still have each other although the times take us apart

Ever since this place we speak only from the heart

For the experience we had at that forest in the light

Gave us the strength to carry on and sleep through another night

But the day draws closer when our paths will fade and separate

And the time we spent together will feel like a torturous twist of fate

Still through life we must walk with chins high and voices bold

As we continue to walk in the mysterious forest of gold
